Flats wading

I have been wading the flats in my area ( Tiverton, Fogland Beach ) the last couple of days. I have noticed that there seem to be some much bigger fish out of casting distance for my flyrod. I am pretty sure I can reach them with my lightweight spinngin tackle and a popper or jig, but how do you carry and extra rod with you when your on the flats? I could just leave it on the shore but it would be a long walk back and the fishi would be goner by the time I could get back out there. Any hints? Or do I just need to cast more than 90 feet? :)
