I know that eels on our coastline and I believe along the European coastline started out in the Sargasso sea, however, I was speaking to a gentleman who lived on Martha's Vineyard decades ago who said he witnessed a huge ball of eels at moon tide one June rolling away from the ponds into the surf where they were slightly broken up as they passed over the shoals. Many of them at this delicate point were eaten by bass. I suppose this tactic, which I never heard of before, has the same effect as does schooling for baitfish-its a numbers game for survival. Has any one seen such a ball or was I a victim of a hoax?
