Those stripers want something that resembles a 1-2" sandeel, be it a fly, a jig, a small popper. They clearly don't want big iron or Rapala/ Rebel swimmer types. I've been picking up a fish on every drift provided I use a small slim fly.
Surprisingly, they are not eating eels.
Also; the west side is better, check out how the boats there are anchored up or drifting. There's a couple ways to work that rip safely and out of traffic.
I don't think I was there Sunday but I have seen some pretty big boats doing some amazingl stupid things right smack in the middle of the channel.
I am amused that the majority of people hooked up are in mosquito fleet tpe boats :-)
