Yeah, we're back. Island life was a bit too much for my wife. I was really livin' the good life--up around 7am, get the clients out on the water by 8:30 with their guides, headed out with my new flats boat (Dolphin Super-Skiff) with a 'guide trainee' around 9:30. Fish for bones, permit, jacks, cuda, tarpon--whatever, 'till about 2:30pm. Greet guests at the dock about 3:30. Happy hour every day at 5:00. Chef had gourmet dinner ready by 7:00. Get up and do it again.
The problem was that my wife was having a really tough time on the island. We lived in a dump--no problem for me, as I was in heaven. There was only 1 woman on the island and my wife had to fire her (my wife was in charge of the kitchen and housekeeping staff.) The only way on and off the island was by plane or LONG boat ride. No stores. No 'native' people. We worked for about a month at a time w/out a day off. Plenty of scorpions (in our closet...)
I definately having a tough time adjusting. The weather isn't that cold, it's just so damn grey and gloomy! Did catch a few stripers on Jan 29 in the Bay. Looking forward to a Cape road trip when the stripers really show up. Going to Marathon in May. Always a good call.
The fishing in Ascension Bay is awesome. I can't believe how many big permit were caught there. Wish I could transport myself there for the afternoon...
