Had a fantastic guided trip out of Cocoa Beach last week. Had an Orlando businesss
meeting on Thursday, booked Capt. John Royall for Friday. He picked me up at the
Cocoa Beach Holiday Inn at 6:30. The fish were right where he said they'd be!
I lined and spooked two dozen fish before I even had the fly line stretched out
good. Only had a few hours, since I had to drive back to Orlando to catch a flight.
We fished several mangrove island areas, and got within sight of the launch
gantrys at Cape Canaveral, although we didn't have time to do the "No-Motor Zone".
I ended the day with two 10 pound reds in the boat. Several others hooked, and
many more sighted. Clear skies, 78 degrees. John was a great guide with excellent
equipment. He was definitely impressed with the success of Vance Cooks orange
and yellow "Whistledeucer", a modification of Blantons Whistler. The Reds inhaled it!
It was sure great to back to "instant summer". Hard to believe I live in the same state. 32 degrees last night.
