Just a comment about using felt-soled boots. These are fine in rocky trout streams, but nearly useless on algae-covered slick rocks and even worse on mud bottoms. I have the bruises on my butt to prove it. Do yourself a favor and buy some cleated sandals (one brand is called "Korkers") that lace over your boots. A few tackle stores carry them and someone on this BBS can probably tell you where to get them via mail order. Yeah, they're kind of heavy but the cleats cut through that slime and provide the needed traction. I've heard that a cheaper alternative if you have the time is to cut the spikes off some old golf shoes and either glue or screw them to the boots.
