Typically, the first reported striper catches will come from the West Wall
on April 1st. Other areas which produce plus/minus a few days of April
Fool's Day are the Pawcatuck River and Newport's Second Beach. This however
has not been a typical winter and perhaps they may appear a week early.
Historically water temperatures begin their upward climb around March 15th
and despite the water being warmer I haven't seen any bait to speak of in
the local R.I. tidal areas yet.
