Today I wet to the herring run on the Palmer River in Rehoboth, Ma. The run is at the Shad factory pond which is about half way between route 6 & route 44. This is a about 7 miles up the river from Warren RI. At noontime there had to be at least 100 herring starting up the run into the pond, this is about 3 weeks early. I went to the White Church in Barrington RI, on the Barrington river, there is a small run there which goes to Tiffany Pond. There was herring there also in small schools, There should be stripers where this dumps into the Barrington river. There was quite a few dead herring in the creek to the pond. When the tide turned and started out the creek turned muddy, I don't know whether this is killing the fish or what. The pond was full of sea gulls. I am pretty sure that herring were spawning in the pond. Didn't see any stripers anywhere. Art B.
