4-25-97: Cape southside report

Checked out the usual haunts Fri. evening. Not a nibble at Dowses Beach in the river
near Osterville. The tide conditions were good (outgoing).

Then I checked Oregon Beach in Cotuit and another spot in the same town (it was
nearly dark at this point). Zilch at Oregon, but I caught 8 schoolies to 18 inches
at the other spot (email me if you want to know where, it's got limited parking)
within 40 minutes. There were more light hits and misses and at one brief
point the pocket water was boiling with surfacing fish. There were also gulls
working everywhere in the bay, presumably over herring and other bait driven up
by the bass. As soon as the tide slacked off after dark, so did the fish. It
just goes to show that it's feast or famine in April
and you gotta move around. A few warm days should improve the consistency of the
bite...

P.S. No big fish at the Canal yet, to my knowledge.
