If you are dead drifting them why don't you try tying the hook upside down and you will not be hooking them in the top of the mouth. The clouser is my favorite fly but I am usually retrieving pretty quickly. When you are catching fish numbered in the hundreds you are going to experience some mortality no matter which method you use. I will give you a call when I get back from Ohio. Maybe we can get out on the long weekend.
