5/1 Succonessett Shoals

I drove all over Succonessett Shoals this morning (7:30 - 9:30 AM) looking for my first keeper of the season. The rips were running pretty well and there seemed to be a lot of bait (squid I assume) in the water. I saw a couple of terns flying around with squid in their mouths, but otherwise nada. Same story at Wreck & Eldridge Shoals. I don't think the bluefish are around yet (sorry, Dave), but I then again, I didn't really check their favorite early season haunts.

There were quite a few boats hanging around just outside of the West Bay entrance, including a couple that looked like charter boats. They appeared to be vertical jigging, I think. Does anyone know what they were fishing for? Scup?

Plenty of schoolies inside North Bay. I got my first ever on a fly I tied all by my own self. Very exciting.
