OK, you go over this bridge to get to the island, and keep driving straight till you get to the end of the road. Surfland will be on your right. Bang a left and follow to the end of the road, where you'll find the parking lot. Then walk towards the dock, turn right at the water, and walk. And walk. And walk. The beach is loose, deep sand, so the walking seems worse than it is. You can either fish in the river, or keep walking till you get past the jetty and fish the ocean. I always seem to attract piles of seaweed when I go there, so warn me ahead of time and I'll go to salisbury the day you try Plum Island.
About the jetty: I keep hearing all kinds of rumours that the jetties are off limits this year. Does anybody know for sure if this is true? Do they have a sign saying "Keep off" or something?
As far as lures go, I just bought a striper swiper this winter and can't wait to try it out. Translation: I have no clue. However, during the day, a shiney piece of metal with a hook on it works good. There are millions of sand eels in that river, but I've never seen one of those sand-eel looking lures work. Although, I have seen a lot of stripers spit out a sand eel when you catch it. Translation: I'm baffled.
Hope this helps.
