Pretty much stopped chunking or live baiting unless I'm trying to catch my one or
two takehome fish a year. Stopped this because of all the deep hooked fish,
Plus really enjoy cathing them on the fly much more.
Crimp the barb down on my flies, Lip all my fish, making sure I hold the fish
Perpendicular to the water so not to stress the Jaw joint. Unhook and if
necessary revive the fish. Use a 9 wieght rod, 12 or 15 lb. tippit so get 99%
of them in the boat quick. If the fly goes way back give it one shot with the forceps,
if that doesn't work cut the line and let him go. Gill hooked fish, cut the line
and if I can take it out through the gill slit.
Only when I am tagging do I actually touch anything more than the lip.If I am
tagging, I have the aeriated live well up and running and hold the fish in there
to do the work.
Being up in NH I have never been exposed to the "fast runners" albies and the
sorts. When reading a lot of the post about it saw many instances of "had him
up to the boat and he rolled over dead" Is this because of using to light weight gear?
Really concerned me, Whats the scoop?
