In response to Larrys ques. :
The Sunbeam usually runs a schedule of tues/wed , thur/fri, sat/sun, for reg
2 day tuna trips with a mon occasionally to make a 3 day.
Typically as on our thur/fri we leave at 2AM thur for 1-1/2hour drive to Ct.
The boat usually leaves the dock at appx 4 AM and the ride is 4 to 8 hrs
Obviously shorter if the tunas are in close, say around the 500 line (loran)
And last year one steam took 12 hours to Atlantis canyon and was a great trip with lots orf tuna
So on average you are now fishing around noon in one of the canyons.
Now you can fish for 18 to 24 hours ,some trolling usually ,for capt to find
fish .Normally anchored up and chumming by dusk.
Now comes the hard part , and usually the best fishing ,(staying up all night)
The bite usually comes in the middle of the night and best around false dawn.
I have been in the middle of some real Blitzes at this time with both captains
and 4 mates up to keep up with the gaffing .you are usually now knee deep in
fish all over deck, heads being lopped off, blood and guts (primal stuff).
Around 6am to noon second day you head for port and the maits steak out and ice fish
Arrival at dock is usually 3 to 6 pm, fish packed and iced in coolers.
You can contact the Capt Johns Spoortfishing center at 860 4437259
Tight lines
