Well, the fall feeding frenzy has definitely hit my home turf. I have had more schoolies in this last week than all year long. Lot's and lot's of schoolies on the feed at sunrise and sunset on the ocean front. Small popping plugs on floating line has done the trick most mornings. On occassion, the fish seem farther out, and a quick switch to spinning gear and a plug was all it took. Worms and Clams are working for others.
Last night while fishing with my friend, several times we saw 4 or 5 fish following 1 plug. Lots of slashing and slapping and striper acrobatics. Once my plug was smacked 5 feet into the air. Also last night, frightened bait was running up onto the beach. Between us we landed in the vicinity of 80 schoolies in 3 hours. I have not managed anything larger than 26", but on Tuesday Kay at Surfland reported a 40"/22lb Striper on a plug. Also, last Friday or Saturday, a 53lb Striper was taken from the Salisbury side jetty on chunk.
Alas, the long winter in knocking on the door............
