Chucked flies around the mouth and Badgers on Friday (9/5) morning. Alot of 14" to 22" bass feeding in the north bar rip at the tip of the jetty. Lots of fish still outside the north jetty. Try fishing big flies to cull some of the smaller fish this time of year and don't neglect a weighted dropper fly ahead of a big deciever.
Saturday live-lined pogies with great success. Netted 25 pogies in the first 2 minute drift. The river is full of them right now. Took two decent fish(17 and 22 lbs) out of one upriver pocket at fist light outgoing. Moved downriver to find big bass balling up pogies at nearly low tide. It was pretty amusing with all the boats on the river that very few people understood what they were seeing. Big fish had corraled the bait up against the channel wall(in two distinct places) and were picking off anything that left the school and ventured out into deeper water. I was wishing I'd packed a flyrod because these big fish were very agressive and fly accessible for the first time in quite a while. Put a couple of more decent fish in the boat and headed off to wash windows at the house. Oh well, everything in balance.
Looks like we might have a good fall run if this bait stays in the river.
Tight lines to all.
