Headed for the Cape early Sunday 9/8. Things bode well as we crossed the Sagamore bridge and glanced to the water below. A huge school of stripers was crashing bait right up against the rocks on the cape side just below the bridge. Birds were going crazy and the water was being whipped into a froth. All the anglers we could see were on the opposite side of the canal, though.
Put in at Centerville River and headed West. The waters appeared barren until we got to the Waquiot jetties where there were some false albacore splashing around and too many boats. Headed for the Vineyard and found acres of breaking albies between Tashmoo and Lamberts Cove, being harrassed by acres of boats. There were guys fishing from canoes and sailboats, as well as Ocean 43's and Bertam 38's. I saw the bozo in the orange formula that Larry B talked about. I guess he hadn't thought much about his behavior overnight as he was just as obnoxious the next day. He was joined by another equally obnoxious fellow in a brown and white runabout. After fruilessly chasing the large schools around Tashmoo, we decided to break-off and find our own, which we did close to the beach in 3 feet of water. pods were popping up all over and there were stripers following them around, too. My fishing partner landed a 36" striper that was in the middle of a school of albies.
Saw some more albies off Oak bluffs and East Chop, with much lighter boat traffic. Managed 4 albies, 3 on fly, and 4 stripers including the one 36 incher.
