been flooded a couple times - the ones where you go in too deep going out to or in from a bar are no wheres near as scary as when the surf comes higher than you expect and goes over the top.
I have never been knocked down by surf, but that is the most dangerous of the bunch. Water coming over the top is bad, being sideways or upside down in the water with waders on can be a life threatening experience.
