I just received an econimic impact statement for recreational fishing in Massachusetts. The study was conducted by Vishwanie Maharaj and Janet Carpenter and was funded by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Feel free to gleen your own conclusions, but it se
ems obvious to me how important the recreational fishing industry has become and how improtant it is to all to preserve our resources so that these dollars can continue to ripple through the economy and help everyone in the Commonwealth.
Recreational anglers pumped $989 million into Massachusett’s economy in 1996.
The 703,713 adult anglers spent $524,574,998 last year on fishing trips and equipment, and created 11,219 full-time jobs. Those jobs created $274,805,177 in wages and 41,110,398 in state tax revenue.
