Fishing- winter nights

I fish mostly at night during the spring/summer and fall.
This year I've continued through November with dimished results.
This past weekend I had no luck - saw one rise (maybe) and
saw no bait (with one big exception)

- first question Does anyone else continue to fish the second shift
and if so do you change techinques, locations or other ?

- second question What are those worm things ?....

Good grief, Saturday night I was on my way back to the car and stopped to
see if any bait was holding in the usual spots. I shined my light on the
water and found a piece of a white/pink/reddish fleshy worm thing about
8"long and 3/4 wide.

Some equally vulgar small white worms looked to be happly munching away. I didnt think too much of it until I stopped at another place and saw a couple of soulmates being swept along in the current. These were 18 to 24" long and
maybe 1/2 to 3/4 wide by 3/8" thick. Wiggly doesnt quite describe them.
I dig clams and know sand worms, clam worms and blood worms. These were something different

Any ideas what they might have been ?

Question three - who uses Chum and what do you prefer ? I've fooled
with the dried concentrate but havent set a pattern or techinque. I fish
mainly from shore but use the boat when forced.
