Out of curiosity, I checked the Offshore Angler catalog and they have a bit more selection than I expected:
- Shad head jigs from 1/8 to 1/2 oz.
- Flathead jigs from 1/8 to 1/2 oz.
- Shrimp body jigs from 1/8 to 1/2 oz.
- Ultimate (modified bullet) jigs from 3/8 to 1 1/8 oz.
- Round head jigs from 1/4 to 2 oz.
- Bullet heads from 1 to 5 oz. (although I don't consider what I saw in the picture a true bullet head.)
- Owner Jigs 1/2 to 1 1/2 oz (extremely sharp and extremely expensive)
I've used the shrimp body jigs (which look like a bisected egg) and various plastic bodies with great success in the spring, although I think the fish are pretty forgiving about jig type early in the season.
Raw unpainted jigs I'd like to see: the Rip Splitter jig (with the mouth; I think Smilin' Bill is essentially the same) and the Joppa Jig which I think is the most productive bullet-shaped jig. As Mike says, you're probably forced to mold your own if you
want to customize them.
