I developed this fly for the gamefish of the New England area. It is meant to immitate peanut bunker or herring type baitfish. I wanted a fly where I could hide the hook from wary, sharp eyed predators and bounce along the bottom or through weeds without picking up too much debris. This fly rides with the hook point up and is tied with a straight shank rather than a bendback type hook .

Tying Sequence

Step One

Wrap the tail part way around the bend of the hook as in photo

Step Two

Wrap the hook shank with bill's body braid

Step Three

Cut a one inch section off the tip of the tail and tie it in at the inside curve part of the hook as a wing base.

Step Four

Tie in a bunch of white Unique Hair ahead of the wing base in using the hi-tie method.

Step Five

Tie in a second bunch of white Unique Hair ahead of the first using the Hi-tie method. It is very important to not cover the hook point with too much material as it will cause missed strikes.

Step Six

Apply silver Flashabou to each side of fly

Step Seven

Apply the gill plate, tie in at the front

Step Eight

Apply a bunch of black Unique hair on the top, tied in at the front 1/8 inch of the fly and tie off the thread.

Step Nine

Apply the eyes to each side and run a bead of Softex completely around the gill plates and eyes and thread. After the Softex has dried apply a second bead around the gill plates and eyes ( this will keep the gill plates from flaring out like wings after several strikes).Take care not to get softex on the pupil of the eye as it dries cloudy.

Step Ten

Step 11

Using long scissors trim the wing at an angle from the tip of the wing to the under side of the belly.
