We are in the middle of prime bass fishing but no one cares. The albie fishing is still hot and the primary target of many recreational fisherman. The season is winding down so tighten those drags and get out there.

It’s shaping up to be a historic season for false albacore, with anglers striking hard from Buzzards Bay to Monomoy. That’s gonna be good news for the tackle manufacturers as these fish show no mercy on the gear…

We are at the end of August. A time where various types of fishing really heats up. I have a love/hate relationship with this time of the year. I love the chance to chase after the different species.

Bluefish are everywhere and providing lots of action. This is a great time of year to take new fisherman out as the weather is warm and the bluefish are very accommodating. Just watch their fingers.

Unfortunately for bass fisherman, the surge in bluefish has made striper fishing more difficult. Between the warm weather and bluefish it has been tough fishing. Bonito were the top story the last two weeks, but things have been quieter than expected this past week.

There are some that would like to make the striped bass classified as a game fish. This got me to wondering what qualities should a fish have to qualify as a game fish? Is size an important factor? How about swimming speed? Maybe tailwalks once hooked should be a factor.

Things are looking good, especially for August. Good reports from both Nantucket and MV, as well as lots of tuna action in the Bay. The Monomoy rip action has slowed down, but we expect the funny fish action on the South Side to take off almost immediately.

July…usually a slow time, but from the reports, things are still happening in a big way. Looks like we’re ducked the classic summer doldrums…

The Islands are hoping, with funny fish showing up, tuna offshore, and even blitzes of bass on the beach. Elsewhere on the Cape, things are alive and kicking as well.
