Again… with the weather. While flats fishing has sufffered minorly, of late, due to obvious visibility issues, there has been much ado within our region during what seems to be an extended early season, due to low temps, much cloud cover, weather and rainfall.

Weather Permitting… Early Season Providing.

Truly, downright wet weather has only minorly hindered the great fishing we have been enjoying. A couple tidal cycles has been enough to clear up any sediment we’ve had in the water. Flats fishing has taken a little bit of a beating due mostly to the lack of sunlight.

Tarpon are in full swing off Anna Maria Island, Egmont Key and even in the grass flats in the bay. A few cobias have been mixed within the tarpon pods.

Fly fishing across the region has been strong and steady over the past week. Large fish are being taken on the Jersey shore, around the metro area and Jamaica Bay and out east.

The season is finally starting to heat up in Rhode Island. While the pogies have arrived in Narragansett Bay the numbers appear to be off from last year. Not a lot of reports of squid either.

Peconic flats have been fishing great when the light has cooperated. You’ll find big fish lurking when the lights are on. J-Bay has been living up to it’s springtime billing. New Jersey has been yielding the biggest bass amidst a fine early season.

Early Season In Full Swing, Fishing Well

We’ve got great action all along the coast, starting with big stripers and marauding bluefish off the New Jersey coast, and more of the same continuing the whole way up to Montauk. Excellent action in most early season spots, especially in the warmer water of the flats.
